Family of Private Charles Prescott Claydon
On Tuesday afternoon, August 12, Jürgen Beekers and his wife, on behalf of the Nederweert War Cemetery Grave Adoption Foundation and the adopters of Charles’s grave, Saskia and Rob Kiggen, met with the Claydon family at the hotel in Nederweert where they were staying.
At the British military cemetery in Nederweert, the group was welcomed by William Schreuders, secretary of the foundation. Also present was Jeanine Stassen, who provided musical accompaniment. It was a very special and moving visit for the family, who were deeply grateful for everything the foundation had done and arranged for them.

After spending some time at the cemetery, they continued to the area in Neerkant where Private Charles Prescott Claydon was killed and where his field grave had once been located. Following this visit, they went on to the center of Neerkant to see the war memorial erected in remembrance of the liberation of Neerkant in November 1944.
After their time in Neerkant, they all continued on to the visitors’ center of the Groote Peel, “Mijl Op Zeven” in Ospel-Dijk, where they concluded this meaningful afternoon together over a drink.
Gratitude
The Claydon family is extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to their visit to Charles’s grave in Nederweert. Everyone agreed it had been a very beautiful, special, and memorable afternoon.
